Bronx Community Charter School is currently located in the Norwood neighborhood of the Bronx. The median income for the area is $24,000 and 33% of households are living in poverty, but there is a great richness in the ethnic and cultural life of the community.

The student population of BxC proudly reflects the ethnic and language diversity of the area. Our families identify as 71% Latino, 20% African and African-American, 6% Asian, and 3% White. Our students speak a variety of home languages, including Spanish, Bengali, Urdu, Fulani, Hausa, Wolof, Mandinka, and Twi. 86% of our students qualify for free or reduced priced lunch.  23% of BxC students receive special education services, and 20% are classified as English Language Learners..

Sasha Wilson is a co-director of Bronx Community Charter School. He has been an educator in public schools in the north central Bronx for over 20 years. He spent his entire teaching career at P.S. 51/The Bronx New School before co-founding BxC, and he is a parent at the school along with being the school leader. He earned a B.A. in government from Wesleyan University and both an M.S. in Elementary Education and an M.S. in Leadership for Social Change from Bank Street College of Education.

Albania Ruiz is a co-director of Bronx Community Charter School. She has been an educator in public schools in the Bronx for over 10 years. Prior to joining the BxC community, Alby worked at a South Bronx public school, where she found her love for literacy and special education. Alby developed her ability to lead and support teachers in her work as the ELA department chair. She brought all of her experience to BxC, and pursued and completed a Masters degree in Educational Leadership at Bank Street. In 2016, Alby became a founding member of the 7th grade team and eventually moved up to teach humanities in 8th grade. Over the course of the past 7 years, Alby has developed strong relationships with her students, families, and staff members. Those experiences and relationships have helped her to transition into a leadership role at BxC. Her work as a co-director is fulfilling, and she is proud to serve a diverse community with a clear focus on social justice.
